Some questions

for 1.: pm firefrog he did a workshop about that on ebelday, I can't remember how to do it but firefrog certainely knows

For all the other questions I don't have a clue :) 

question 1:  some software can detect a 'bpm' for avi files, when u got it  you can easely change the bpm in ableton to follow the movie  will check tonight for that software

for the question 2 :  when u use a sample or rx2 file or anything that is not in the factory sound bank, create a new folder on your desktop, copy the samples in this file (means you ll have 2 time the same samples on your desktop for a few minuts/days), send the reason edit and the copyed files, when you open the track on your desktop reason will ask you where are the sample   tell him the name of your folder and thats it. The thing is: copy your sample direct when u use it, create a folder with the name of your track for example... see what i mean ???

1. the 'music' doesn't have a bpm, it will be a collection of sounds and music. I want to be able to put the sound of sciccors for example, on the exact image of the sciccors, I've you know what I mean :)
2. Yes, I'll check it out, I just didn't expect I had to do this manually, in Ableton this is easy with those 'Live packs' anyone got some help on the other questions?

For Q1:  Ableton does not support .AVI. It only supports .MOV so convert the AVI-file to a Quicktime movie and then you can drag and drop it on a midi or audio channel.

1. In live's arrangement view you can drag a video... you can even warp and trim it like any other audio clip. you can set your time indicator to display frames. there is whole chapter in the manual on working with video.

2. No easy way to do it... doesn't realy fit into abletons logic. if you alter the parameters with clip envelopes its possible but thats not realy intuitive either.

3. Can you be a bit more clear? are you recording in session or arrangement view?

About question no. 1 : my experience learns that when you are really doing 'after effects', as sound of scissors, to put on image better do it in final cut than ableton. Ableton is great for music but still a toy when it comes to video. On the other side, final cut is not great for audio so it a beetje wikken en wegen... I had the same problem like you for some shortmovies.. hope firefrog can help you out more... would love to know how he does it too!! 

hellowhellow, seems like i've been missed while laying on my lazy ass in Spain :)) here i go

1: for sound-editing on image i always use Protools, because ableton is waaay to limited for that (for example: you always need to have 10 ms oor more of fade-in & -out on every sound to avoid clicks). offcourse not everybody has Protools, since you need extra hardware for it, so i suggest you take a look after Nuendo or maybe even Cubase (although Cubase is a bit more for music than for sound-editing). for video, i make the music in ableton, and drag the rendered music as a multitrack in protools (or nuendo, cubase) to add the sounds and do final mixing. in ableton, place locators on your timeline for easily finding the right bpm, overview and syncing. i would NOT recommend doing the audio-montage in a videomontage-program, because you can only sync on one frame, 1/25 of a second (40ms). this is not precise enough for sound, and you will quickly see that all your efforts to sync the sounds manually where for nothing, because most of the time it will still feel not a 100% right.

2: as aphone says: always keep your used samples together with the project. it is the reason why programs like ableton, protools, cubase,... don't just save to a projcet-file, but create a map containing the project-file, imported and recorded sounds and sometimes also video. my guess is that this feature will be included in reason 5 ^^

3: import the .als-file into the current project, then cut/paste the sounds AND parameter-automations (in arrangement-view) to the channel you desire. to copy parameter-automations, make shure the channel has all the needed effects/instruments and then right click on the original automations and click "copy automation". if you want to change the sound/midi-clip without loosing its automation, right-click on the automation and click "lock envelopes". this way you seperate the automation from the clips.  4: to record to an audio-/midichannel, you have to arm that channel by clicking the button with the round dot, then click record (next to the stop-button) and play. to arm multiple tracks, hold ctrl (cmd for mac). my guess why you failed to do so is because you added tracks while you were recording. as new tracks are not yet armed (unless you ticked on that function in the preferences), they didn't record anything. for parameter-automation you don't need to arm the channel, just click the record-button. after you recorded you can play the recorded sound, midi and parameters, but keep in mind to click the red hilited "back to arrangement"-button or hit f10 in case you messed with the parameters while playing back the recorded arrangement; if you don't, ableton will ignore the recorded automations.

5: some external soundcards give problems when there is a short power-break. appearantly you amp sucks a lot of power when just switched on. because of that the soundcard is powered too little or even switched off for a very short moment, long enough for your computer to think that the soundcard has been disconnected. indeed switching it on and off again (and sometimes also restarting your music software) resolves the problem. to avoid this you'll need to put the amp on another cirquit than your soundcard is (most rooms only have one cirquit), or put a current-stabilizer on your system. if your soundcard is bus-powered but can also work with an adaptor, use it 'cause that might do the trick as well. but you could also just never switch of the amp when you work on your computer ;)
