Hi guys

My Creative SB live crashed recently and now I have no sound card. It's the second time a Creative SB Live crashes for no apparent reason, so I plan not to buy anymore of that shit.

Does anyone know where I can buy decent sound cards other than Creative for about € 150? I only need a 2.1 card, I have no room to place surround :)

Plz help me out here. Creative Audigy is my last resort!

Buy a terratec phase 28 (if they are sold, they were stopping I thought). It's 160€. You could also buy a usb soundcard for less than 100€. Check www.mistergooddeal.be and go to music>audio interfaces. Cheap prices on good (enough) soundcards

btw: you don't need surround sound to produce :)) None of the pro cards are built for that.

Don't buy a SB anymore, they're no good.

KK thx guys. But I'd rather have a pci card cause usb is rather occupied by other devices sometimes :P

I once saw Hercules Sound cards in a store once. Is that any good?

Anyway I'll check for those other brands :)

If you still know any stores or something, please don't hesitate to mention it :)

Terratec phase 22 (when you don't need 8 outs): €99 phase 22 Image

M-audio audiophile €100:

But m-audio isn't that good all the time...

Why no usb or firewire card? Choice is much greater in your price range.

btw: forget the 'saw that in a store once' argumentation :)) Soundcards are not to be bought in computerstores. They never have anything good! Soundcards are to be bought online for the cheapest prices around, soundcards that just aren't interesting enough for pc-stores at prices music shops (where they do sell them) can't compete on.

Little example: I just bought an Edirol FA-66 external soundcard on mistergooddeal.be for €299 and now I see that Keymusic sells them for €423... So don't go to stores :! ;)

im a big fan of m-audio. i use a delta44; it never bailed out on me, always worked like it should. If you consider buying something from m-audio its best to go to the source in Benelux, a company called Mafico in holland. Im not home now so cant check for more detailed info on them, but i recall they have a website.

I had to contact them because the store where i ordered the card totally fucked up my order (too late, not letting me know...) so i went to the store and demanded the info of their dealer. Gave Mafico a call, explained what happended and 2 days later a courier was at my house with my card, no shipping costs for me. Now thats what i call service!

i had a very bad experience with a friend's m-audio FW1814 interface though. it managed to crash my powerbook, the equivalent of the windows blue-screen-of-death. this never ever happened with any other gear or app. don't know whether it's just due to crappy mac drivers or more...
