I've got a little questions i'm asking myself, and maybe you  guys can give your insight to help me go in the right direction.

For the v3.

Should we still restrict user registration to artists only ? Or should we have a "user" account where people can just log and post on forum, comments, playlists etc... and be identified. And then have "artist" account which is basically what there is now.

I think this is a really good idea. In the same time, maybe it will "clear" the user list, i mean maybe separate artist and simple user... most easy to find new artist

No there should be users that aren't artists offcourse!  But to prevent the spamming maybe you could make it obligatory to fill in the profile and add a picture.  Maybe only posting on the forum after listening to xx songs?  Such things...

Require a complete profile to be able to post : sure Require listening to xx songs : not a good idea . Why ? 1/ They try to post and you block them and give a message saying you need to listen to 5songs before .. Well they click on muzik, click on 5 songs, next next nextn extnext.. and done.. 2/ You don't tell them, then people complain.

Unfortunately most users have a hard time reading and thinking differently ... once you use a logic different from wellknown forums, people are lost.

besides, non-artist users are already registering even though we ask them not to.

If you mean the USERS list at the top of the page, i believe it only shows people who posted songs ...

seperate user and artist account is a very good idea, i'd go for that, no minimum click, but you can make an introduction mail for new users/artists, explaining our views on mindless spamming, being involved in the community, etc....

and then mods have to eliminate the spam that still sees the light..

as everyone then got a mail with our ' policy ' in it, everyone who complains can be refered to that and be ignored if they still nag...

like that it's clear i think.....

people nag anyway.

There's a BOARD RULES for every board, and no one reads it anyway. and they nag anyways.

therefor it might be good to have it sent automatically to all new users/artists...

some will read it, others won't, but no-onehas the excuse that they didn't know...

i know people nag, but when you give them all the info they need, we can let them boil in their own frustrations man....

anywayz, the user/artist destinction is good

I think I actually did make a draft once for such kind of "welcome" mail? It was never used I guess, but maybe Zark still has a copy of it... I'll check whether I still can retrieve it somewhere myself.

EDIT: 2 more things...

  1. what happened to "stats"? Has it been disabled?
  2. I remember we once were discussing to simplify the forum structures...is that still gonna happen?

Aha, I was able to retrieve it... ;) This was a draft I sent to Zark once.

EDIT: Since I wrote this already a long time ago, I've put some stuff in bold here which should be left out now because of the whole sabam-thing.

Here's a first draft of the welcome letter, let me know what you wanna have changed, added or deleted.

Hello [auto-insert user name],

Thank you for registering at Electrobel, we bid you welcome! This is an automatic welcome letter to confirm your account has been activated correctly. Please read this carefully as it contains some useful information about our community.

Uploading music...

  1. How to post a song? Uploading songs is quite simple. Log in to Electrobel, go to “my music” and click “add”. The wizard will then guide you through a few steps. Note that uploading the MP3 may last a couple of minutes, depending on its filesize and your connection speed. The wizard will tell you when the song has been uploaded correctly.

  2. Which songs are accepted? Electrobel works with a Creative Commons licence to support underground artists, we therefore cannot accept copyrighted songs.

The following types of songs are allowed:

  • your own songs - your personal remix or cover of a copyrighted song - songs that have just a few copyrighted elements or samples (movie quotes e.g.) are generally tolerated as well
  • dj-mixes of songs on Electrobel

The following types of songs will be refused:

  • dj-mixes of copyrighted material
  • songs which are not your own
  • songs which have too much copyrighted material incorporated in it
  1. Authorization of songs Before your song will be made public, it has to be validated by the administrator or one of the moderators. We hope you understand this is in your personal benefit, since we want to prevent our members from getting into trouble due to copyright issues. Validation of songs is subject to log-in time of our administrator and moderators, not to their personal liking of the song. To give everyone a fair chance of getting listened, we apply a rule of one validated song per day per user.

  2. Miscellaneous Please also read the index page and the FAQ section on the site where you can find some more useful information.
