MIDI recording question
Help neededHi,
I'm using Cubase sl 3.0 to record midi and audio content from my external synth (Nord lead rack 2). In Cubase I have set one channel for the MIDI messages and one channel for the audio of my Nord.
Now I can record and playback MIDI and audio from my nord rack. No problemo here BUT when I turn off my Nord and put it back on, I hear a different sound being genereatd by my Nord. That's normal because there is an other patch (the default patch) loaded onto my Nord. => My nord plays back the MIDI messages, with different sound.
=> my Nord receives the MIDI messages i've recorded previously, but now it generates the sound based on a different patch (the default patch) 'cause the Nord has been turned off and turned back on.
So my question is: How can I save the ENTIRE patch (not only the midi note-on & note-off events etc) so that, when I open my project into cubase and turning on my Nord, they play exactly the same sound as I left it earlier?
Do I have to do a kind off MIDI-dump onto my pc? => I would prefer not to save my patch on my Nord, cause it has limited memory and I don't wat to remember everytime which song in Cubase is linked to which patch on my Nord...
I hope I'm clear and that someone knows how to do it!

don't know how that is done on the nord..
just create a 4bar start in your cubase where you put all your dumps :) put it at beginning ... record ... dump the patch on the nord ...
in cubas ou can simply select the bank and the sound u want to use from your synth in the midi track itself...
so under the part where u must input the midi channel, etc u have the program option, there u can choose the bank and sound, press save project and voila, the next time your sound is loaded outomatically.... 8)
that way u don't need to use midi dump
Really? I can't check that kick ass option, cause I'm not in my studio. But how can cubase know which sounds there are on the Nord, or how to name them?

me too, my korg ms 2000 r works like that with cubase...
unfortunately i forgot how i did it, i'll check tonight to see if i can remember, but i remember it was pretty easy to do...
I've had the same problem with my Korg N1R...
After two years, I've found a 'patch' on the net, made by some italian guy...
It was a midi device patch, who let me select sounds from my Korg, from the dropdown menu on a midi track in SX...
But... This just takes you directly to the right sound (preset) but it doesn't remember the FX from your synth you've put on it...And i really want to use my FX from the Korg, but to do that, I have to save FX settings on my Korg itself...
I've also recently read that there's a standard midi insert in SX that lets you control parameters from synths also... Haven't checked it yet to be honest...
I'll late you know if that could help you/us...
Try & search for a midi device patch for your Nord Lead..

A midi device patch probably... If i'm not mistaking, the Korg MS 2000 is standard in SX? (Not sure...but findable on the net also...)
I use podium to sequence my hardware. You can store sysex data as patches inside of podium.
You first register your hardware synth as a device in podium, then you add all the sysex patches to this device, and from there off it just works like a vsti. You drag the device to a midi track and podium does all the routing for you. If you select a sysex patch from the device preset list, it will upload this to your hardware synth.
Keeps me from having to write down which bank I had on my x-station for which song, it just gets saved by default in podium.
Podium doesn't do rewire though :( I have to render out my synthtracks (which is very easy) and import them into whatever I'm doing my project. I don't like doing entire projects in podium, it gets cluttered very fast because of the way it's works.
