hey
so a few years ago i started to ignore everything that came from the drum'n'bass scene coz i was fed up with all that "allways the same thing allways the amen break over and over and that crappy eurodance singing and allmost no bass"
but today i discovered something that's called GRINDSTEP and i'm not sure if it's really a new style that kicks some butt (it's kinda like breakcore but with way more nasty basses) or is it just that drum'n'bass got fine again...
i need sum help coz i'm really feeling lost now :p
hehe and some good artist names too
cheerz
Mr. GNooZ
Hey there Mr Gozno, Don't get caught up in this completely crazy/useless classification of music styles ...to paraphrase the old soul stars " do your own thing" & don't feel lost you're always on the right track.
Offtoppic: -music is structure -only that which can be discribed exists
hura for classifictiions hura that you can say I make a mixture of IDM, downtempo & breakbeat
Ontopic:
so, gozno I assume you're referring to: "GRINDCORE/GHETTOTECK", a new sort of dnb which grew out of darkstep (see: tech itch, dylan, B-key,..., its dark amen ariented DNB) and is indeed close to breakcore, but whithout losing its structure. Typical are its agressive, dark beats, phat reeces & hardcorekicks.
artistis such as: Noah D, Current Value, Donny, Demo, Axis & Trank
Yet grindcore/ghetoteck is more of a subgenre of darkstep then a genre on its own, you'll never find a party with sollely grindcore, it will always be used in combination with darkstep. Living is more popular with Grindcore/ghettoteck producers than in any other dnb-subgenre. But since there are few grindcore producers that only make grindcore, you'll rarely find a set made entirely out of grindcore (even in lives). It's more usual to hear 1 or 2 grindcore songs in a darkstep set.
If you're intrested here's a song of mine:

cheers
great man thanx for di info :)
i'm happy again...coz i loved the oldschool drum'n'bass because of it's agressivness and the bass and then it just got sissy...
will listen to your track
Hey CruizeOffiction; You must be fucking joking . Music does NOT need structure & for sure does NOT need classifications .Why do you need all this structure.. music is for me the last resort to get get rid of all this bullshit.
Nope, it's my personal oppinion. Doesn't mean you can't go crossover & be orriginal tho. The fact of the matter is: if you can find musical similarities in artists/songs, you might as well link them to eachother & thus create a genre, its hella natural... and easy for everyone to give a genral thought about artists/songs/music in general. And about that structure thing, every science (history, math, sociology, but even fysics & math) is only accecable through structure, music is math (don't argue, BOC said it :D), music has bpm so for me I might add: music is structure, even breakcore has structure...
had this discussion a lot with my friends, you'll probably see it in an other way which is fine by me. I personally don't see any harm in classifications it just makes music more accecable & relyable...
cheer-I-o's

imo when you keep producing in one genre and it's that genre you want to go in like drum 'n bass you do need these classifications. But overall.. it's not necessary. Talk about musical freedom

Yes creativity comes first, categorisation comes after the spark... Sometimes people might hang on to categories too much.. but using categories and terms just to be describing isn't a bad thing at all imo... a clear description can help people in their search for music... a lot of people just want to know that if they want to spend their money on pizza, they don't end up with a kebap i guess :) the one who comes up with genrenames tends to be describing in the first place... when doing this they should also be prepared to be creative enough so they don't try to stuff new and original music into the existing genres when these actually come short. I think it already got a lot better, a lot of music reviews try to describe the combination of styles that some recent albums portray... Back in the day an artist like M.C.Escher, even though he offered great and interesting work and people didn't even disliked it, hasn't been succesful most of his life just because the critics couldn't find a category or new hype to put him in... that shit is just terrible!
Classification is useful when you need to talk about music... If you talk to someone about some artist, the first thing the person will ask is "what kind of music is it ?". But with too much categories, you end with the same problem because it's hard to explain what "speeddoublechickencorenic" is... Just don't abuse and misuse them...
