Rewire Reason with Cubase

I havn't tried to rewire cubase yet because you need a rather powerfull pc to do so (min 1 gig and 512 ram). But what you should achieve is that reason will run under cubase (i think cubase will be master, reason slave) as if reason were (eg) an vst instrument. So, you can use the samplers, synths & fx of reason + vst's u have for cubase. This could be a very powerfull tool, cauz there sure are some great vst's on the market.

A problem in this configuration is that it demands a lot op cpu from your pc + the general overview of what you are doiing is lost a bit. (reason is so simple when it comes to a general view of what you are doiing - the rewire action will make this get lost a bit)

if you want to try to rewire cubase with reason, i think you need to start cubase first, the open the rewire function in cubase (think this will automatically start up reason); once in reason you can create the mixer, disconnect the cables on the back, and give each channel an external connection (instead of only two connections) [i think this is right, but since i can't try it over here i'm not sure :) - if you want to learn more about rewire, i think there was an article about in in Future Music this month (or was it last month ..) ]

i can tell you about it :P i used it a lot ..

start cubase, open the REWIRE options in TOOLS and enable the rewire channels. then start reason

Then in cubase you will see the reason instruments appear just like VST's or midi outputs ...

works fine. does take plenty of cpu .. 1.7ghz p4 here ... and it does lag sometimes ..

i never used reason in standalone :P

basically because i've used cubase since ages and i don't wanna change :D

but this doesn't seem possible, the audio is re-routed thru the rewire instead of going straight to soundcard .. maybe your settings are incorrect .. or you have a plugin in ur cubase mixer

Romek is right, reason alone has a shit sound... but when used in cubase, this is another story, sounds more clear, more punchy...

I'll try to Rewire that sometime then :)

i rewire for quit some time,i prefere vst 32 version,doesen't crash that much

so my hands are somehow tied even with rewre (i monitor with wavelab,audio card input)

so 3 programs are running,and i know ya can do it in cubase,so any sugestions

cesqui, i know this from the beginning It's just that when I install Cubase, Reason won't work anymore. the so-called solution for this with the file you have to replace in your windows map doesn't work out So, I remain stuck in Reason alone.

Aight, I never used cubase, instead I use Logic Audio. Same as cubase but 'rewire' is not mentioned: u can program logic so that every channel from reason is recognised and seen as a proper separate input in logic. So u can call it rewire, but it's still a little different from Cubase.

I agree with most of u that when u connect reason with a main soft-sequencer like logic or cubase, it's sounding better and rounder (cos' the mixer in reason can never create that brightness u've got in cubase or logic). Disadvantage is off course the fact that the pc is running 2 heavy prgs in the same time, so crashes are more frequent with such a setup.

But to say that when u use reason alone, the sound is shit is underestimating the power of that software. I know professional producers who make their entire songs just with reason on laptops and then postproduce the whole shit in pro-tools. So even if mastering and adding that little more to the final mix is always done with better software, I still think u can make a complete blueprint of ur track in reason.
