DAT recorder?

i'd say minidisc.. or simply directly to yr pc..

fostex cr300 if u can find one you dont want dats

PC is quite out of the question because i have no room for it. And it's rather expensive (also goes for laptop) :P

EDIT: there's already a cr500 out. Better than cr300 or not?

indeed you don't want dat's, they block from the slightest change of temparture due to condens. also the loading into you pc will need to happen real-time. u might wanna take a look at this: http://www.orbit-dj.com/nl/produkten/7746/i-key-plus.html

minidisc is also a good solution if u want to put your mixes online (then the mp3-format isn't an issue). and i thought the IPOD is also capable of recording nowadays, no? anyway, if u want to have a mobile solution, DAT and cd-writers are not very handy ;)

cr500 seems new version i'd say its good, prolly better than cr300 (only 2ndhand) and more up to date.

i don't agree at all here...

I use a dat recorder and i haven't got any complaints...(don't use em for everything, but i used it a lot allready, and i bought it second hand )

never had a dat block, or anything...

sound quality is great, exeeds minidisc or the latter...

I use the best dat tapes(imported), i'll post the name tonight(have a hole in my memorie at the moment)

My datrecorder is from sony ( older model)

if u have the funds, go for tascam, otherwis sony is good as well...

cd more reliable/strong and less expensive

as i said i have very good experience with dat...

and it can handle more than 16 bit ( not necessary if it's for sending demos, but i use it for more than just that)

and i really wouldn't caal cd more reliable...

it's a matter of personal likings i guess...

for use in studio for your productions, i'd say go DAT for sending demos, cd is maybe easier...

id rather trust something wich doesnt rely on a shitload of different mechanisms tbh. i also could rescue some old cd's wich were scratched to death, on the other side i tried to listen a dat tape with my old metal recordings (coming from a pro studio) and it got stuck within the first 30 seconds. lost for good. i had the good idea to save it from dat to tape then to cd years ago.

another exemple: let fall a dat tape 5 times and play it do the same with a cd

as for 48khz, cant you do that as data on a cd?
