This message is for all people who have posted and will post songs in the Remix section...
In our concern to keep Electrobel free of copyrighted stuff and to prevent huge posible mabaS claims (because the site hosts copyrighted music or samples) we are going to apply some changes in the criteria of accepting. I'll be writing the full list of ideas and criteria to which a song has to comply before it gets authorised.
So, soon on this thread you'll read more.
If, in the meanwhile, you have thoughts or construtive ideas about this issue, feel free to post them here... I'll take in consideration every message and you might thus add some ideas to the ones I already have in mind.
Zark is the best guy ever but can't seem to take a decision on this matter... so as the Remix moderator I kinda feel responsable for this part of Electrobel.
Reaman...
In this (message)window all ideas and criteria to which songs should comply before being accepted in the remixes section are going to be filed.
Ici vous trouverez toutes les restrictions à lesquelles les nouvelles et anciennes chansons dans "Remixes" devraient obéir.
First of all:
If your song contains obviously more copyrighted material than original input, your song will no longer be accepted. No need trying but I insist on the responsability of the "remixer"/user to keep an eye on that since I do not know all original versions of all songs that can be remixed. eg.:a song that entirely copies the original and puts a beat under it... not a change getting accepted. Original at higher speed and a beat added... not a chance... An obvious vocal but with an completely different instrumental approach... it shouldn't be but why not? If we don't accept that... no remixes section is needed anymore.
Second:
Don't mention the band or the original song in the title if it is a band or a song that has copyrighted material. Write that information in the description part... much harder to find... It's logical that if you made a remix from an electrobel comrade or any artist that isn't protected by copyright laws the title CAN contain that information. This "rule" applies to all users that ever posted in this section.
more to come (and please help me find other good criteria) don't think of me as a cop, if you DO love electrobel you know it HAS to be done...
every single item here is subject to change...

C'mon man, don't beat around the bush and encourage them to still use copyrighted material, but hide it from the title. That's just silly. No copyrighted material should be uploaded, period.
It's either black or white, CC or copyrighted. CC artists remixing CC artists are a breeze but a CC artist uploading a remixed copyrighted song (copyrighted anywhere) is just a NO GO. No matter how you want to turn it.
i agree with jmf,
either you choose to take fully care of this issue, or you just keep on running risks.
amen. if we're to tackle the issue then better do it well hé... btw, it's not limited to the remix section. songs in other genres can very well contain copyrighted samples.

maybe we have to make a "report point" when we discover copyrighted material.
in the announcement of the new rules it should be clearly explained why a serious CC site cannot have copyright infringements. i think many users are not very much aware of this. would be good to have it on the upload page too. then people are reminded (and warned) about it every time.
Well, this seems to be the perfect place to clarify some questions i have regarding remixes: First, when you remix a song with the artist of the original knowing and even wants you to do that, who has got the right for the song in the end? Second, is a remix really weighed out like the more original material it contains the less it is yours? Third, what or where are the differences between a remix, a cover, an edit?

Either it is copyrighted or it isn't. If it is, it doesn't matter if they want you to remix it - if it's put here, or anywhere, that site has got to pay hosting fees for copyrighted material.
A remix is a remix, either you use the original tunes or not. Where the line is draw is a line up for debate in a court of law should then eed arise I'd say, usually it won't be a problem.
A remix is making a mashup of an existing song, a cover is just blatantly playing it note for note in your own name for your own fame. Edit, I dunno.
@reaman: So you are the one that allowed the smells like teen spiritses, our darknesses, etc. in the remix section in the first place? Could you explain the reasoning behind that? I think everyone has been crying wolf not to let copyrighted material into that section (can be seen here with the couple of answers in the thread too), so what's your reasoning and point of view? After all you are the only mod in the section.
@ ready: let's keep it on topic hé, this thread is about copyrighted stuff on ebel ;)
@ fish: no need to play it personally on reaman. although it surely was formaly a rule not to have copyrighted material on ebel it wasn't practically enforced, be it in remix or other sections (eg. portishead remix on the triphop compil...). this led to an ambiguous situation. once there is an official guideline people can be addressed personally about their responsibilities.

It's not dissing on reaman personally, he's a nice bloke IRL ;)
But with all the non-communication sometimes over here, maybe he was told of some general guidelines, I really don't know. Fact of the matter is that there are some blatantly obvious remixes of copyrighted material. So maybe when the remix section was added, there has been some behind-the-screen talk we don't know about, some unofficial guidelines.
Something somewhere, somehow went very wrong, just trying to find out where so you don't repeat it :)
