i just got a laptop with vista on it ive had so many problems with it i thaught id start a post about problems and solutions with vista.

1st, finding the record stereo mix  Right click on vistas sound-control-panel and select "show deactivated" You will see the stereo mix device appear. You can activate it, by right click-> activate.  if this doesnt work,

Right click on the speaker icon in the tray.

Select "Recording Devices"

In the resulting dialog, make sure you have the "Recording" tab selected and in the middle of the empty area, right click and select "Show Disabled Devices". taken from http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1010001&SiteID=1

2nd, making jescola buzz work

once you have installed it, right click on buzz.exe > properties > compatability tab > change it to windows 98 then it works!

im still looking for a solution for networking vista with xp

i had some problems installing a midiloopback tool... since midiYoke didn't seem to work. loopBE is compatible with vista but only gives you one channe and is a bit buggy. http://www.nerds.de/en/loopbe1.html  till i found this post

I got Midi Yoke installed and working on MS Vista 32bit Final version by doing the following:

  1. Download the MIDI Yoke NT 1.74 Installer.
  2. Run "MSCONFIG" from the Run-menu (Win+R).
  3. Go to the "Tools"-tab and select "Disable UAC".
  4. Press "Launch". Close the CMD-window.
  5. Restart your computer and install MIDI Yoke Wink   The Vista UAC(User account control) is making the MIDI Yoke installer problems. Feel free to turn the UAC back on later by doing steps 2 to 5 again.. now it working fine  download: http://www.midiox.com/index.htm?http://www.midiox.com/myoke.htm

also.. after a while the 'stereo mix' dissapeared from my recording devices list.

it seems that the sound card drivers had been replaced with the microsoft drivers.

  1. download the drivers from your computer manufacturer
  2. uninstall the sound card drivers
  3. install the drivers you just downloaded

or you could just throw your computer at the wall and buy an old one with xp or a mac.
