dark contest voting
General discussionthe other day i was telling a friend about the dark contest. he asked how much entries i expected and my conclusion was somewhere between 50 and 500. this raises an issue about the voting. even if it's only 50 entries that's already a whole lot to listen through if you wanna make an honest vote and listen to all tracks. it's very likely that people (talking about both ebel'ers + non-ebel'ers) will just get their friends and contacts to vote for their own track without even listening to all the rest. how do we make sure the voting is going to be honest?

that also means you nee a simple voting system no 5 points for this, 5 for that, 6 for this and 4 for that.

Sure you can, most blatant ways of cheating in this kind of concept such as putting a bot with fake IP's to vote can be easily monitored. The only thing you cannot control is people asking friends and family to vote and mail the whole school, such as often happens in the demopoll. If some people are willing to do it for 5 minutes of airplay, I'm pretty sure some would do it for a concert.
I think Zark has pretty clear statistics of visitors and amount of songs listened and could pinpoint if something is seeming odd.
This is one of the main reasons why I'm putting a jury at the end of it, too; If someone would actually cheat, be found out after the voting, and wouldn't even win, the only thing they gain is looking like a fool.

Thumbs up thumbs down or something similar works for me; Enough people will bother to listen to most tracks I'd wager.
zark could check the ip, if an ip only hits one song and votes for it: remove vote

If you are going to use a different IP for every single song then you're a very courageous man with a lot of friends and girlfriends.
Honestly, if there would be, for example, 53 votes in one hour on one song, Zark should look it up, or anyone that can look that up; If they all come from a different IP in the same range, I.E. people connecting from a university, he could notify the artist (since only he knows who it is). An artist could go to a university, log in on every computer in a shared room, and vote with each but, like I say, as long as the control is good, this could be easily found.
Besides if you didn't log in, can you actually vote? I would prefer no visitor votes so people have to register.

in case it's public there can/should also be a validation by email (confirmation email being send with a validation link). then it can be limited to one vote per email address. but that's hardly fool-proof 'cause i have 4 email addresses, for example...
i guess we need to have all this sorted out very well before the submission deadline!

It IS open to the public; People would just need to register. And if they bother to register, chances are some of them will stick around. Which is the basis for this concept, aye? :)
