Live 8

that groove tool looks like it was inspired by reason 4's groove mixer... with the advantage of offering a bunch of presets... for the rest i am pretty impressed... but i think I should finish learning the secrets of Live7 before buying Live8... trying to find out about the price of the Akai APC 40... looks like +500 to me...

in the ableton forums the price of 399 $ htva for the APC400 is discussed.

it is cool but every year they make a new version that i must pay almost 90 or 100 € for some new fx ...

the sfx's seem cewl, but i'm not in great need of them for the moment (the looper is very well thought thrue though). but i do like the possibillity to group clips, the new way of warping and FINALLY crossfades and enhanced editing! maybe i'll go for version 9.

some things on my wishlist: -patchable midi control-data, so you can controll all parameters of rewired software with your midi-conroller thrue ableton, and determine which encoder on you controller does what. this would be possible in the shape of a midi-effect. -all the clip-automation parameters available in the channel automation, so you can automate external synths or rewired software and edit it in the same way as all the other automation. -launching video in session view, so you can play the live, just like audio/midi. -support for clipcontroll via timecode-vinyl - like serato scratch- without all the fancy options of those dj-programs; just simple timecode-control. -the possibillity in an efx/instrument-rack to choose which part of the map-encoder is used for a mapped parameter. for example: from 7 o'clock to 12 o'clock is the dry/wet of a flanger and from 12 o'clock to 5 o'clock of the same encoder is the dry/wet of a distortion. this would also solve many problems when you use an encoder as crossfader between to effects (when you do that now, you'll have a dip of volume in the middle).

• the utility needs a volume trim to minus infinite instead of -35dB.
• a stereo-field- and corelation-meter
• on an azerty-keyboard the "^"-key (and the shifted "¨" key) needs to be hitted twice to have effect when you use it in key-mapping.
• now in a big live-project, you can map keys or midi-buttons to launch the clips of the selected scene. instead of 1 scene, it should be possible to have several scenes at the same time of which you can launch the clips. for example: from scene 23 to 26, you have 4 different beats on channel 1, and 4 different snares on channel 2. if scene 23 is lit, you can only launch beat1 and snare 1. to launch beat2 and snare3 at the same time, it is not really comfortable now. however, if you would be able to have a custom range of scenes of which you can map the keys/midi-buttons, you could launch beat1 and snare1 with key "&" and "é", beat 2 and snare 2 with "a" and "z", and so on. to launch beat and snare 5 on scene 27, just go one scene down, so that scene comes in the range of the key/midictrl-mapping. compare it to the way the pads of the drumrack work. this would be a big help in complex live setups.

The controller looks the works, but out of my budget probably.

I like the groove functionality in live 8 and the new way of warping is much more intuitive. I don't really need the groups, nor the new fx. I wonder how much improved the midi editing is, because it still feels extremely awkward for me in 7. If they get that right for 8 I'll buy it, otherwise I'll just pass this one I think

frankly, for a specific Ableton-controller, i expect more knobs (8 for sends and 8 for all the rest??), more buttons, and also little lcd-screens under the knobs that label their function. for the cliplaunch-buttons, i expect more in a row. at least 12 instead of 8. and the same here: clear labeling.  on the oter hand, it is just like the ableton-interface, which makes it very intuïtive

ableton seems to become more and more a complete setup...

the additions to the opperator are awesome the percussion vsti looks real cool the new fx seem real handy to me (voxcoder, limiter, compressor => these will deff come in handy) new warping system makes me even more horny for ableton 8 and then there are the details which wil make using it a lot easyer: the crossfaderthingy, the vst button assignment (!), the improved clip mode

realy looking forward to this one...

especially with a decent tutorial (as usual in ableton) it might be something I would like to throw myself at....

I don't know seeing this, I know why I love ableton so much^^
