NOISE PROBLEM

maybe the power isn't grounded properly, i think that's your prob, i have this all the time when i'm performing b2b with my friend, only one laptop can be plugged in the power at the same time cause else there is a lot of static. Don't know why this is....

ha that sucks! egon fisk had that same problem.. it was due to den aarding of his adaptor, don't think he could solve it now he's on mac .. maybe ask him

Try to make a wire with only + and -. disconect the one to the earth. It could work.

i have exactly the same problem, it's because my laptop has 3 pins, Positive  ,negative and earth. Someone told me i need a plug with only 2 pins.  It's unbelievable a well known company like dell makes laptops with such errors in them... 

this is indeed a famous grounding problem but there is a nasty solution or 2. I solved it with balanced calbes for my soundcard(the noise goes through everything usb,....). I did that once... and I almost got lynched at an electronic jamsession (with almost 25 people with expensive gear), when people discovered that I had broken the grounding out of my multiprise... coz when I switched it on... it made PAFFFF and the whole place was dark... As it seems I could have grilled everybodys gear that way...

By the way. The noise is called "ripple pickup" or "ground loop" .... (Brummschleife in german).

When I was still on PC I noticed the problem wasnt only the PC power supply but an incompatibility between the power supply of the PC and the one from the mixing desk. An electrician sold me some kind of "ground loop-killing"-tool (some inductor bobbin with cinch plugs) which I had to put between PC and mixer. But it only made things worse. Although the noise was lower, the volume started fading in the rythm of the alternating courant when I was on stage. I threw that thing away... and finished the liveshow on battery...

This was the last argument for me to switch to MAC (along with many other advantages) and now I don't have the problem anymore. And even Macs dont have unlimited ressources either... they work by far better than anything I experienced on my pcs.

Mhhhhh, i don't understand the big PAFFFF thing, like putting an electric guitar at full volume..... or was it because de groundcable set free in the "stekker"? In my case i use a kind of a european powerplug systeem, you know those plugs u use in england to make your shaver works in an english "stopcontact". Got totally no plop when i take it out or in, it's like taking the powerplug straight out of the computer to work on batteries..... Someone gave me once that same box against the groundloop and got the same experience of having more noise, i couldn't work with the batteries, so i used reaktor with some noise engines to create a kind of an industrial athmosphere, ;) ;) during the complet session. i'll check it out, don't want to lose my gear and got no money for a mac....
