SHAMAN

DJ extraordinaire Shaman is the man behind a flurry of radio shows and parties in and around Brussels since the early 90s such as Retroactive, 313, Formatted Industries or Fucking Aliens. More recently he’s acquired a fair amount of well-deserved notoriety as part of the brains behind Shadowboxing or Beat Dis, and as the culprit behind the Sci-Fi Funk mixtapes series. To quote the man himself: he’ll spin any variety of “funk as long as it’s real!”

FUNCKARMA

Funckarma is the main moniker for the R & D department of D & R Funcken, although they also answer to the equally quirky names of Quench, Cane, Dif:use or Shadow Huntaz to name but a few. It’s crystal clear they like their beats bitter and twisted in every possible way, and with every new release, their long standing Hip Hop fetish - “in particular the raw stuff” I believe their exact words were - and Reggae fixation - and anything remotely Jamaican for that matter - become ever more apparent. The entire lot is naturally drowned, starved and sedated in a deep dish Electronica seasoning. More than warmly recommended to those of you who “fail to transcend themselves by means of worship, good works and spiritual exercises”, but still feel “the urge to transcend self-consciousness”.

HERRMUTT LOBBY

Hailing from the notorious 4800, the Herrmutt Lobby is composed of Kadah/Vresky, Back & Forth, Chantal Goret and DJ Swiffer. Voluntarily sequestered in dubious locations of ill repute, for days on end, without any contact with the outside world or so much as the time of day, Herrmutt Lobby are essentially these massive electronic jam sessions, selected, filtered and arranged for your optimal listening pleasure. They’ve now taken these sounds out of the comforting environment of smoky, dim light bedrooms, and into the spotlight, onto the stage, in front of an audience. They drink their coffee black, short, no sugar.

It might sound hackneyed and bland, but with Sun Papa you can expect the unexpected. The only clue you’ll get is that most things find their origin in some new synthetic plastic miracle.
