well, i think this covers the main issues... maybe a little : what to expect from ebel ...

i think tutorials work best in text+image, depending on what u want to explain, but in this case that'll do it imo...

just text is boring and those flash movies tend to make me dream away...

Yeah we were discussing that. I had sent ZARk a first draft of a possible automatic welcome-letter, to inform new users of some stuff which they would be asking afterwards anway, to prevent the same questions appearing in the forum time and again.

Since the video section is online now too, maybe we have to change some more contents. So, I decide to make my proposition public - question to everyone: feel free to say if things need to be added or removed? All suggestions welcome.

Here's a first draft of the welcome letter, let me know what you wanna have changed, added or deleted.

Thank you for registering at Electrobel, we bid you welcome! This is an automatic welcome letter to confirm your account has been activated correctly. Please read this carefully as it contains some useful information about our community.

Uploading music... 1) How to post a song? Uploading songs is quite simple. Log in to Electrobel, go to “my music” and click “add”. The wizard will then guide you through a few steps. Note that uploading the MP3 may last a couple of minutes, depending on its filesize and your connection speed. The wizard will tell you when the song has been uploaded correctly.

2) Which songs are accepted? Electrobel works with a Creative Commons licence to support underground artists, we therefore cannot accept copyrighted songs.

The following types of songs are allowed:

• your own songs
• your personal remix or cover of a copyrighted song
• songs that have just a few copyrighted elements or samples (movie quotes e.g.) are generally tolerated as well
• dj-mixes of songs on Electrobel

The following types of songs will be refused:

• dj-mixes of copyrighted material
• songs which are not your own
• songs which have too much copyrighted material incorporated in them

3) Authorization of songs Before your song will be made public, it has to be validated by the administrator or one of the moderators. We hope you understand this is in your personal benefit, since we want to prevent our members from getting into trouble due to copyright issues. Validation of songs is subject to log-in time of our administrator and moderators, not to their personal liking of the song. To give everyone a fair chance of getting listened, we apply a rule of one validated song per day per user.

4) Miscellaneous Please also read the index page and the FAQ section on the site where you can find some more useful information.

You and Electrobel... Electrobel is a community by and for its members, so do not hesitate to make your personal contributions to it. As for the other possibilities, I wouldn't opt for a flash animation. For some people - who don't know much about computers etc etc - it might still seem too complicated + maybe it would require too much of ebels webspace/bandwidth.

Rather would I go for a) just text but I guess b) article-style would be better. Pictures/visuals always help to explain things.

In any case I would send the automatic welcome letter as well.

good letter, just the copyright stuff could be confusing...what is acceptable what is too much,... for the rest it's good imo

Good but a tad too fast??? I mean for new users? For us who are accustomed to the ebel interface it's easy to follow, but for newbies it might go too fast?

That's why I prefer article-style, step-by-step and follow at your own tempo.
