How to connect usb midi keyboard to Ableto or Cubase

You need a midi interface. Or you have to buy a standard midi cable and connect it (if possible) to your soundcard.

a bit of a RTFM-question, but anyway...

cause you say it's USB-midi you don't even need a midi-interface it has usb so you should just plug the usb cable into your computer (and into the controller, doh...) normally your computer will find the new device and will ask for installation disk (some controllers needn't be installed anyway)

when you have done this, open up ableton and read the included manual on how to assign midi-controls to your loops or instruments

for cubase idem dito...

I've got sort of the same question, i've got a Hercules DJ Console (MK1, the first one that was out). Is it possible to use this as a midi interface ? Cause on the net i cant find any proper information if its compatible with it :x

note: i'm using ableton live 5

I haven't worked with the Hercules DJ-console so I don't know for sure, but as it has midi in and out it should be possible to connect it to Live but it depends on what exact-midi-info it is sending out? Live only responds to midi CC! So maybe if you're lucky it sends on-off messages and that should be enough to start a wav, loop or mp3 in Live.

Connect the midi-out of the hercules, to the midi-in on your computer. Open up Live and press F1 (for opening up the help pages) or read this manual. (page 22 is all about seting up midi) These will give straight answers on how to set up Live for midi.

well yeah maybe Live2 did only responds to midi CC, but since live4 its been fully midi implemented.

-make sure you have the right drivers installed -in the ableton preferences midi tab select your keyboard

for cubase it should be similar

aha, oops, indd wrong manual... :( strange enough it's a direct link from the Ableton, FAQ-page... excuse me for this grave error...

as you can read in the thread RTFM is not in anyway used by me to insult people but just to remind them there is such a thing as a manual...

i got a problem and i really hope some will help ... Crashed my HD a few days ago, had a "recovery file" and i get an ableton file wich is still working but not so fine, other files are broken... So, here is the problem: I re-installed Ableton Live 6, connected my BCR2000, and all the midi infos are still there ( ex: phaser on the second channel is the knob number 5 on my controller) buuuuuuut nothing normal happend when i turn my knobs, i mean the know 1 turns the 'channel one fx send' and should not since he should be programmed for another fx and i never asked him to do that + i cant assign again all my FX to my knobs...  i went to 'preferences' checked everything, should be ok but its not... is there any midi preset for a bcr i should switch off or sumthin? PLEASE HELP  and heuu  its urgent  :s Thanks a lot!
