Quote sampling for movies
Help neededI sample much quotes from movies to use in my songs...
problem is you always have to look hard for the parts where there is no use of texture or music in the background....
Now I'm wondering: is there a way to (partially) delete the background noise? (I'm not refering to EQ-ing cose I allready do that, but it only has a limited amount of effect (which is logical off course))
when you for example use dolby 5.1 (only DVD's offcourse) there's often one speaker that spreads (almost) sollely the vocals.... is there a way to sample only from that chanel?

i'm not a producer nor a technician but I trhink both is possible channel the sounds with dolby digital software or filter out the backgroundsounds later with soundedditing software... dunno exactley what u need or how to do it but it's deffinately possible :) cheers
Try mediacoder. I think it allows you to sample single channels.
Also the older the movie, the lesser soundscapes they use. Movies from the sixties often don't contain any music during dialogs (it's really strange to watch them, you don't expect that, even the news hasa texture running underneath)

I once used cooledit to get rid of background noizes. you can select the noize, cooledit scans it and removes it in the rest of the track. Sound loses some frequencies etc but i think it's not a big problem with quotes.

i use this tool " rx" from izotope(the guys that made ozone) i mainly use it for DE-clicking and stuff,but it has the amazing posibility to cut out noise from the audio spectrum, not like filtering but actualy cutting! any unwanted noise!! ,but it wont work for background music i think, because, for instance bass overlaps vocal feq bla bla bla and so on. but you can give it a shot , it's a handy litlle tool.
get a good mic, a descent dolby surround system, unplug all speakers you don't need and just record it like that (straight from speaker) i used to record samples from TV news, documentaries or even voicemail messages. kind a like field recording, but inside your house
