Help neededI am mixing house since a bit more than one year. I use now two cd players that starts really instantly (not like JBS...) and a simple four channels mixer. Now that I can correctly synchronise two songs (okay somtimes i do wrong :() I am asking me how to do better mixes. I try to put some good cue points on each track and to prepare a loop but I find it to "simple". I think about using a mixer with beat synchronized effects (Behringer djx-700? Pioneer is a "bit" too expensive...) or a sampler (what's the difference between groovebox and sampler?). I heard that it's impossible to use correctly a sampler without BPM counter (true? Yes? Ok then Behringer djx-700!). Are there good sampler not too expensive (Boss sp 303?)? Or maybe is it more "expandable" (english word?) to use a software with a controller? But in that case I know nothing about the material, I know just the software Live (I use a Mac). If somebody has some advices... thanks for him!

Désolé mais je ne peux repondre qu'en Francais a cela , mon anglais est trop mauvais :p. La difference entre un sampleur et une groovebox est enorme lolll , au fait un sampleur te sers a prendre des sons ou des loops de cd ou autre source (sampling)pour en faire des loops perso.La groovebox , seule , si elle nest pas combinée a un sampleur te permettra unikement de faire des phrases avec des sons existant dans la machine , et comme son nom l'indique cela sert surtout pour le groove ;). En gros si je pouvais te conseiller quelque chose se serais plutot un sampleur ... et personnellement je ne te conseille pas la sp303 ,je l'ai essayé et je trouve les sons très fade. Pour du tout bon tu peux voir la yamaha rs7000 (sampleur , sequenceur et groovebox :))c'est un peu cher , mais quand on aime on ne compte pas :p
if you want some effects in your mixes, don't doubt: take the pioneer efx500!!!! it costs about 400-500 euros and it is with an automatic beatcounter (if he can't count the beats right, you can simply press the tap-button every beat, so he will calculate the bpm). it is used by the best clubs and dj's, like café d'anvers in antwerp and the fuse in brussels. it has 10 effects, of wich you can play 2 effects at the same time!!! if you want some ùmore info, you should go to http://www.djsounds.com/products_select.asp?prodid=20&tab=2 it is a direct link to that product of pioneer. i have a sp303 of boss, and i have the problem that there isn't a beatcounter in it. to solve that problem, i've sampled a short silence and i tap the beats on my synthesiser (wich has a beatcounter were you have to tap the beats and then it shows the bpm). after that i correct the bpm of that silence-sample and the sp303 links the bpm automaticly to the incoming sound of my mix. i've got used to it, and i can work already very fast with it, but i should consider that you buy an efx500, because you don't have a beatcounter on your installation.
you'd better buy a korg electribe ES, it's a sampler, it's a groovebox-sampler, with sequencer... Plus you can use it as an effect module with sounds you send through it. I'd definitely recommend you this one. ;)
I think the groovebox or sampler only becomes interesting if you're thinking about doing some producing as well. Otherwise I'd go for the CD players that can sample/loop and have some effects.
The difference between a groovebox and a sampler is that a sampler can basically play only samples you put into it, and has a number of effects and setting that allow you to change those samples' sound. A groovebox is more of a "synth" with a soundbank you can use to create your own "grooves" (beats & basslines etc), and possibly also put some of your own sounds/samples into it.
Personally I wouldn't spend any cash on hardware nowadays since they can be easily replaced with good software and a decent computer. It all depends on what you want to be doing with it off course.
