Hi, Yesterday I connected my mixingtable (so two pickups) to the pc. I used ableton to put some effects on my mix and connected the pc back to the amplifier. Unfortunatly I had a latency of half a count(+-500ms). So mixing wasn't really possible. The latency input and output in the ableton preferences are only 3 ms so I don't understand that the outputsound on the pc is almost half a sec or 500 ms behind on the sound on my headphones. I use a pci card of midiman and tried to install asio4all also, but that didn't do it either. Does anybody knows the reason of the delay and would it be better to use a usb or firewire card. I would really like to use this construction, cause I was thinking to buy an efx or something like it, but this way I would have more possibilities. greets b
I tried it myself & indeed, latency of about 500 ms...i use a delta 44 pci (same series as yours i suppose?) & in other programs it records perfectly with very, very littlel latency. Weird... im afraid it probably has something to do with ableton's audio engine.... btw get rid of those asio4all drivers if you use midiman, the one that ships with it (m-audio asio) works great.

Is there a trick to make ableton sinc to the incoming signal and sort off work like a beat counter? Otherwise you have to use the tab all the time and that isn't that accurate. And I want it to be, cause I'd like to use some sequenced effects.
i use ableton for fx with my machinedrum and other gear, no problem at all (motu 828mk2 audio interface, but i don't think the interafce is your problem)
i don't think there is an easy way to sync live to incoming audio but you could try and search the ableton forum

i used my m-audio quattro & live4 to put effects on live microphone.
didn't check the latency, but it wasn't that huge

half a sec can be a bit exaggerated, but when your mixing it should be under 20ms otherwise your f**ked. You still need to sync it on the headphones if you don't have a zero latency, cause to basses need to be perfectly in sync.
you might wanna check
it's the software i use for mixing :) supports vst effects and everything ;)
and with my quattro, it's very fast, i use it with finalscratch records .. and it's faster than the original finalscratch ;)

I think this programme is not able to get audio input from my mixer. And I refuse to mix mp3. Also because I don't have the time to put all my vinyl into mp3. thx anyhow
